The KRUX of the matter

I was an undergraduate at NMSU when KRUX was born. At the time, in the mid 1980's KRUX was as cutting edge as any college station in the nation. They were instrumental in promoting Anxiety of Silence and other local bands, as well as introducing unsuspecting college students to artists like The German Shepards, Blue Daisies, Hair Shirt, and Elliot Sharp. Over the years, the quality at KRUX has wavered up and down, but I've been listening over the last few days and am glad to hear that the station is in top form these days.

You can find out more/listen here or here or at http://www.kruxradio.com/

An amazing journey

In case you haven't been following it, I wanted to point out one of the more impressive music blog feats I've witnessed. NØ over at http://nathannothinsez.blogspot.com/ has been posting music from every country in the world over that last few months. He just completed the journey with at least one post from each of 255 countries. Really a wide range of modern and traditional styles, experimental and pop, underground to radio friendly. And insightful / witty commentary to boot. Amazing stuff. It'll be keeping me busy for many happy hours.

Do yourself a favor. Check it out and drop a line of thanks to NØ for all the hard work.

Mammane Sanni Abdoulaye

A great reissue I have been enjoying a lot lately. Mellow infectious and unique. For the story behind this release go to Sahel Sounds.

Sahel Sounds also included aboombong on a recent remix collection. If you missed it, you can download it free here and find the details here.

bendle - jesus

One of my favorite new releases, a little tune called jesus is from a great friend here at pen & mallet. The main instigator behind dustdevil & crow, bendle has been doing his own thing musically since the late seventies (e.g., the door and the window and The 49 Americans and many, many other projects you can check out at his bandcamp page). This one is a collaboration with rob tarana and has been in heavy rotation since I downloaded it.
